According to a recent piece of news, Facebook has signed a super exclusive deal to put the games of Assassin’s Creed and Splinter Cell on its Oculus VR headsets. Although the news did not offer too many details about the games themselves, it looks like Splinter Cell and some other games are all set to make their debut in the world of virtual reality soon.

Oculus, which is owned by Facebook, is quite popular for its VR headsets already. The owner of the two games, Ubisoft has several VR games to its credit. The company has also released a number of VR escape rooms based on Assassin’s Creed, although they are available at specific locations only and not on one of those home VR headsets.

As soon as the fans of Splinter Cell got this information, there was a wave of excitement. It is pertinent to note here that Oculus Rift is already a major sellout, thanks to its headsets and exclusive games. In the same vein, Ubisoft has also already released a number of VR games in the market.

It is also interesting to note that Sony, the competitor of Oculus, has taken up an identical strategy of exclusivity. In fact, Sony has had an unbreakable link with the gaming industry for some time now which has earned the company permanent or timed exclusives of PlayStation VR on big franchise games worldwide like Skyrim VR.

Splinter Cell was first launched in the year 2003, and it was quite a revelation. It is expected that this game could potentially take the stealth genre in virtual reality to whole new heights. Facebook is also reported to be moving towards the gaming industry slowly but surely. The social media giant also named Jason Rubin, the former content VP at Oculus as the head of the “special gaming initiatives.”

It cannot be doubted that gaming is an area where Facebook definitely faces less privacy criticism as well as antitrust. With this new development at the forefront, it is expected that Facebook might try to acquire other companies dealing with VR, AR, or traditional games as well in the future.
