Samsung SDS Launch New IoT Smart Door Lock
The DR900 smart door lock allows remote control of the lock using smartphones and can inform the users about door activity in real time by making use of notifications.
The IoT wave is coming and Samsung is trying to sail right on top of it. The Korean tech giant has been public about its vision for IoT, claiming that 90% of its products are IoT ready. The company aims at having all its products support IoT by 2020. Samsung SDS, a subsidiary of Samsung that focuses on IT, announced the IoT smart door lock (SHP-DR900), the successor to the company’s current IoT smart door lock.
The DR900 allows remote control of the lock using smartphones and can inform the users about door activity in real time by making use of notifications. It features a power efficient WIFi chip that makes the battery last twice as long as other products in the market. Samsung has improved the built-in fingerprint scanner for accuracy. Sensors allow the door to be opened even with a gentle touch.
The door lock is said to be more secure as it makes use of Samsung SDS-White Box Cryptography and Samsung SDS-Secure Encapsulation for Application Layer technologies to prevent hacking attempts. Sources say that the lock will be made available globally while the prices and availability are yet to be revealed.
With the cost of manufacturing dropping with the invention of new technologies every day, smart home electronics are rising in popularity. More and more devices are being inter-connected every day.
According to Samsung, ‘IoT market growth will be a dominant force across the spectrum of technology-related industries’ This growth is supported by a large number of people, products and services being connected.
Samsung has even released its platform previously for IoT development called the ARTIK. According to their website, ‘Samsung ARTIK is the integrated Smart Internet of Things platform providing the fastest path to secure and interoperable IoT products and services.’
There are much larger implementations of IoT than operating a door lock. Combined with automation, it could be used to run entire facilities. The possibilities are endless and it will be worth observing how they take shape in the near future.
