Experiencing the glorious days of the Italian capital isn’t a dream anymore as the researchers and developers have brought the splendid era of Rome back to life creating something spectacular and magnificent.

The Rome Reborn project and Flyzone productions on Wednesday, November 21, opened their gates internationally for the world twenty-two years after it’s initiation. The Virtual Reality copy Rome is a ten-gigabyte virtual world that is brought to life by the collaborative effort of fifty academics and computer experts.

The magnificent Rome Reborn tour is spread over five hundred square miles that include seven thousand buildings and temples. This digital Rome is considered to be as one of the biggest recreations of an old world site.

The project was led by Benard Fischer, an IT professor at Indiana University. According to the project lead, Benard Frischer their vision was to reconstruct the exact view of the imminent period of Rome that was both historically precise and digitally accurate. Fisher further added that their goal was not only to impress the academics but they also wanted to craft the project for the travel enthusiasts, so that they can experience the essence of old Rome before embarking on their escapade to the modern one.

“I first came up with the idea in 1974. I was determined to find a way to bring these wonderful monuments to the world, but the technology didn’t exist then,” the project’s director, digital archaeologist Bernard Frischer quoted. Fisher also added that AD 320 was chosen because of the accurate pieces of information available of that period. The model was redesigned three times in the course of its creation due to the advancements in the technologies and cost a huge three million dollars.

This Rome tour is a first-of-its-kind that will allow the travel enthusiasts, historians and scholars to experience the monuments and buildings from the Rome of year AD 320 by the aid of Virtual Reality goggles or through a computer screen. Rome Reborn will act as a bridge between interlinking the similarities and differences between the old and modern Rome and it will be a great adventure and benefit for the learners and researchers.
