Oculus was developed to give users a breathtaking VR experience. With Oculus Go, we were able to play games, watch videos and consume media in a very immersive and engaging way. Now Oculus wants us to watch TV within the VR experience with Oculus TV.

Oculus released a new hub app which enables the users to watch TV on a flat screen using their Oculus Go headsets. This new app is called Oculus TV. With this app, Oculus aims to highlight the non-gaming capabilities of Oculus Go headsets.

With the new oculus TV app, the users will be presented a Virtual Reality home theater setup that has a 180-inch flat screen TV. Once you switch it on, the users will have access to several streaming services by default.

The Oculus TV is a great way to watch your favorites shows, news or sports in high detail with more customizable options than your regular TV at home. The users will also have free access to Facebook’s web television services like Pluto TV. This is expected as the Oculus under the patronage of Facebook, and the whole announcement about the Oculus TV was made at the F8 Conference.

Many TV streaming services like Netflix already have standalone apps for Oculus. So, if you are confused on how the Oculus TV is going to be any different, it all comes down to how seamless the whole experience is and how easy it will be for the customers.

For example, what if you have to change between Netflix and NBC news. The process of quitting apps and opening new ones will be completely avoided with the new setup. In addition, Oculus is in talks with other major networks like ESPN to gain support for their channels.

The whole platform is still in its nurturing stage as there is quite a lot of room for more optimization. Currently, YouTube is not available on the Oculus presently. Also, the whole 180-inch screen would be as effective as many think because the overall resolution supported by Oculus will limit its capabilities. However, this is to be verified after the pending optimizations have been made.
