The world is in a crisis as we are facing an apocalypse or something equally scary. The coronavirus pandemic has us all in quarantine, and in the meantime, Snapchat has launched its all-new AR lenses to support the World Health Organization (WHO). These AR lenses essentially connect users to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund initiated by the WHO.
Users can locate this Snap Lens in the app as “Donate to Support.” Thereafter, users simply need to scan their currency notes using the AR lens. The feature currently supports a total of 23 international currencies from 33 countries. Once the notes are scanned, the users will be introduced to an AR presentation, demonstrating the functionalities of the response fund. The app will then direct the users on how they can donate to the cause.
As shared by the social media giant, “We believe that Snapchatters play a critical role in stopping the spread of the virus. Our community can help by using the full power of technology while physically distancing – whether to communicate with loved ones, play games with friends or stay informed.”
Interestingly, this is the third lens introduced by Snapchat that features safety tips and prevention on the ongoing outbreak by WHO. In addition to that, the company is also allowing media publishers to cover updates related to coronavirus on the Discover platform of their app using the “swipe up” option to donate from their content directly.
The response has been staggering to date. More than 445 coronavirus Shows or Discover Stories have been produced, and more than 68 million Snapchatters across the globe have watched content related to COVID-19 on the platform.
Here’s a big thank you to Snapchat for doing its bit to stop the world from ending!
