After Google, now it is time for Niantic labs, the maker of Pokemon GO to shine with its advanced augmented reality apps. The maker has also announced their plans to take things one step forward as now the company is all set to develop an “AR map” of the world with the help of its millions of users all over the world.
As Pokemon GO is widespread and has millions of users; now the company wants the users to map the world in 3D with AR (Augmented Reality). This will definitely make the Niantic a new face of digital mapping. The company has also announced the latest version of its Google Map services incorporated with new augmented reality-based features.
“We want players to build out the game board they want to play on,” Hanke told Reuters. According to Niantic, Pokemon GO has been downloaded more than 800 million times and now the company will add the real-world locations to the existing maps by allowing its users to upload the locations and images while running to places to catch monsters. This will enable the maker to develop a detailed base for users than the previous version.
As per Hanke, this digital mapping will begin with public spots like plazas, streets, and parks, but he doesn’t specify the time when it will begin. He also didn’t disclose how these augmented reality maps would be included in Niantic games.
With more and more data uploaded by users, the company is expecting to do more with augmented reality than just to project monsters in the real-world locations. It is also believed that when multiple players will upload multiple images taken at different angles, it will help in replacing the real-world spaces with the virtual structures.
According to Wizard Unite, the work on Harry Potter game is also under process and is expected to be released soon by Niantic.
