Meet the Next Generation of Orion VR Tracking

This fourth-generation software comes with an impressive array of new and improved features.

On June 11th, Leap Motion announced a watershed with the latest release of their Orion VR Tracking Software. This fourth-generation software comes with an impressive array of new and improved features. They include more concise scale and shape for hands, better fidelity and finger dexterity and a much quicker hand initialization. This release also comes with a plethora of demos that aim at demonstrating all the design principles of this latest tracking software across a full range of interactive devices.

One such demo is the Cat Explorer. It is a fun and quirky video that highlights all the transformative potentials of natural interaction and VR in fields as unique as healthcare, training, entertainment, and education. Cat Explorer doesn’t demonstrate how to use a controller. Instead, it encourages the users to learn via experimenting and playing.

Particles is another fun demo that underscores interactive 3D simulation and demonstrates how combining four elementary rules can result in lifelike and complex behavior with the help of fundamental mechanics. It’s experimental and fun, lending a whole new perspective to everything from atoms to celestial movements.

With this advent of new software in the Orion tracking league, it seems that technology does, indeed, have the power to enhance the capabilities of humans. The increasing popularity of VR lends a hope of physical interaction with digital content in such a way that it almost life-like. Orion does just that! It provides the complexity and power of the human hand to bring the digital content, trapped behind a screen to life!

At its inception, Orion was, in itself, a novel creation, being part software and part hardware to combat the diverse challenges presented by VR hand tracking. The all-new Gen Next Orion Tracking Software does one even better! It substantially increases the human capabilities and guarantees immense reliability and tracking fidelity with extreme lighting and complex backgrounds.

The Orion beta is definitely just the tip of the iceberg! Leap Motion promises that there is a lot more on the horizon and this stark shift is nowhere close to the creations to come! Keep a track of changes to the Orion SDK, along with newly updated Unity and Unreal engine integrations, and the deprecation of older APIs.
