The Augmented Reality pioneer Magic Leap is preparing to stage its first product Magic Leap One later this year. The technological advancement, user experience and novelty of the product are subject to speculation. But it seems that Magic Leap is not going to rely solely on innovation and tech for the success of their product. Magic Leap’s recent job posting shows that the company is looking for a director of store design to make sales and marketing their stronghold as well.
Magic Leap recently added Director of store design in their job listing. The Director is to be entrusted with the task of designing and creating new store and spatial concepts. They will manage the concept and strategy development for stores and events and indulge in prototyping and installation as well.
The job responsibilities further read “…Director, Store Design, who will play a key role in delivering on the promise of Magic Leap’s innovative retail experience….this role requires the guardianship and evolution of our store design and fixturing, as well as the development of merchandising layouts and spatial concepts…”
This step by Magic Leap to provide retail experience to consumers can make the brand more reliable and increase the exposure of ‘not-so-tech-savvy’ people to Augmented Reality significantly. A hands-on experience of Augmented Reality can help root out inhibitions toward this cutting-edge technology.
However, it is not clear yet on what kind of retail experience Magic Leap intends to serve. It can be POP, shop-in-shop, pop-up shop, permanent stores or all of them. Magic Leap may even collaborate with existing retail chains. We are not sure whether the company is focusing on upcoming launch, or this move is a part of a much larger scheme.
The job posting specifies the workplace to be Magic Leap headquarters in Florida but at the same time, informs up to 75% annual travelling. This suggests a near-future expansion of the retail experience. Magic Leap’s retail push is comparable to Apple’s marketing strategy to flare the aura around the product.
Star-studded Magic Leap with business and tech magnate as its major stakeholder has drawn the attention of all, from the day of its inception. Magic Leap has managed to keep its operation covert so far. In such a scenario, this job posting has flamed a lot of speculation. The company does not want to take any chance with product launch, as it is under the scrutiny of professionals and commoners alike. This little step in the path of consumer satisfaction seems reasonable and far-sighted.
