IoT and AI are certainly the next big things, but nowadays, the spotlight is on the technologies that facilitate such innovations. One among the less talked about technology in the information age is Intelligent Edge. And for many, Intelligent Edge might be something that they haven’t heard before, yet, when we look at the modern IoT implementation, Intelligent Edge is omnipresent right from the start!
Basically, Intelligent Edge is a process where data is analyzed and recorded right from the point where it’s generated. Why has it in the first place? The reason why Intelligent is so important is that its analysis the data to determine what’s important and what’s not and then relay this information to other devices.
By having a filter system at the beginning itself, data latency can be reduced significantly. Nowadays, intelligent edge systems come with the ability to encrypt data right before it is sent, hence, making connections safer and private.
Microsoft and Intelligent Edge: The future of IoT and Cloud
Microsoft is expanding its services with the use of Cloud and has realized how important IoT and its subsequent technologies are for the future.
The result is the announcement of three upcoming services from Microsoft;
Azure SQL Database Edge
By merging the SQL engine and Edge, Microsoft hopes to create a more powerful and secure database which can be used to create applications that can be deployed anywhere. Microsoft has also added support for their Business Intelligence algorithm to the mix.
IoT Plug and Play
Not everyone has the ability to code and this prevents from their vision to create new technologies, The IoT Plug and Play developed by Microsoft is used to help creators connect IoT devices to the cloud without the need for code. The platform is also created to empower manufacturers to create IoT devices that are compatible with the cloud from day one.
HoloLens 2 Development Edition
HoloLens platform was created with creators in mind. Microsoft has blended Mixed Reality with Intelligent Cloud and Intelligent Edge, paving the way for the creation of smart applications. These applications can be used in a variety of fields including from education to aviation. Microsoft also provided $500.00 in Azure credits for anyone using Azure Mixed Reality Services.
Intelligent Edge might seem like a technology reserved for highly technical processes, but with companies like Microsoft taking them mainstream, technologies like IoT, Cloud and AI can thrive on a solid foundation.
