Huawei’s AR Smart Glasses to Be Unveiled Soon

The recently filed two trademarks suggest that we just might get to witness the company's ambitious, AR smart glasses at the IFA 2019.

Huawei began working on its augmented reality smart glasses in November 2018, as revealed by Richard Yu, the CEO of the company. When this news was announced nine months ago, the company had promised a next-level AR experience for the customers, and we might be able to witness just that very soon.

At the end of March 2019, Huawei announced with Gentle Monster, the Korean fashion brand to design AR/VR smart glasses. The announcement was made at the launch event of the P30 series in Paris, and the first-stage design prototypes were even tested at the event.

According to the latest news, the Chinese multinational technology company has filed two trademarks that suggest that we just might get to witness the ambitious, smart glasses of the company at the upcoming IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany. According to reports, the company has filed two trademark Class 9 applications at the UK IPO and the EUIPO for two names – Huawei VR Glass and Huawei AR Glass.

These smart glasses from Huawei are expected to be launched in a number of models. It is believed that the glasses will enable users to answer calls with a single tap. In addition to that, these smart glasses will feature speakers, dual mics, and a dedicated voice assistant.

That said, it is still unknown if Google will power the voice assistant or Huawei plans to incorporate another ambitious project along with these AR/VR smart glasses. In the same vein, it is still a mystery as to whether or not they will run on HarmonyOS, Huawei’s first-party compact and lightweight operating system.

It was initially also reported that the company’s AR glasses would comprise a brand-new Android app that might take advantage of Google’s ARCore. In any case, it will be rather interesting to see just what the partnership of the Chinese and Korean brand result in vis-à-vis the new technology and design.

From the look of things, the smart glasses are expected to be anything but run-of-the-mill, although the details will soon be clear at the IFA 2019.
