Sony Pictures which hosts Ghostbusters has taken the advantage of Google’s ARCore to build a new game based on augmented reality. The company recently announced that they’ll be collaborating with Google to come up with Ghostbusters World, which will be an AR game that can be installed and played on mobile phones.

This partnership with Google is great because Google recently announced ARCore 1.0, which allows developers to build AR apps for Android smartphones. The platform enables virtual reality to balance with what’s real on your phone’s camera to come up with an exciting world between real and virtual.

Google has partnered with many smartphone manufacturers including Samsung. Some of Samsung’ devices (Samsung S8, note 8) are equipped with the required software to run AR apps, but still the search engine giant is seeking more electronic companies to launch its ARcore on. A company such as Huawei is a future partner to Google.

Google has already tested the previous versions of ARCore on its own pixel device. However, this partnership with Sony Pictures will possibly increase the reach of the AR platform developed by Google.

Nevertheless, the characters used in Ghostbusters World will be familiar since they are pulled from movies, comic books, video games and shows. In addition to that, Ghostbusters World will be neighborhood based, whereby ghosts can be haunted down in the neighborhood, a town and even the city of the gamer but through AR.

This game is still under development. More information about it is yet to be announced in March in the game developers’ conference. Sony Pictures, Columbia Pictures (Ghost Corps) and game publisher Four Thirty Three Inc. are the main developers of Ghostbusters World.

A demo of Ghostbusters World was released and it was great!

A short video on YouTube has also been posted just to show the readiness of the game. Just take a look at it:
